Analysis of the teaching activity in a football cycle in “ordinary” and “difficult” environments : a dual ergonomic and didactic approach

Cette thèse analyse l’activité de deux enseignants en éducation physique et sportive (EPS) issus de deux milieux différents (éducation « prioritaire » et « ordinaire »), au cours d’un cycle de football avec deux classes de 4e en collège. L’activité enseignante observée est déterminée par un artefact qui est le débat d’idées (DI). Cette étude prend appui sur l’approche clinique de l’activité en ergonomie (Amigues, Faïta, Saujat, 2004) et la théorie de l’action conjointe en didactique (Sensevy et Mercier, 2007 ; Schubauer-Leoni et Leutenegger, 2008) afin de mobiliser une nouvelle approche ergo-didactique (Brière, 2017). Le recours à cette approche novatrice vise à apporter un regard original sur les enseignants d’EPS, entre ce qu’ils veulent faire, ce qu’ils devraient faire et ce qu’ils ont fait réellement en termes d’arbitrage de dilemmes, sur l’activité et le rôle de l’enseignant, entre sens et efficience, et enfin, sur la place des élèves. Cette recherche tente de répondre à une problématique fondamentale concernant la manière dont se réalisent les compromis en fonction des différentes contraintes qui pèsent sur les enseignants et des conflits qu’elles leur imposent, et leurs effets sur l’activité des élèves en lien avec les enjeux de savoir. Les données recueillies à la suite des autoconfrontations simples et croisées ainsi que les synopsis montrent que l’activité des deux enseignants, au-delà de leur appartenance, a été perturbée par rapport à l’appropriation et l’instrumentalisation de l’artefact (DI) durant leur enseignement.This thesis analyses the activity of two physical education teachers (PE) from two different environments (“priority” and “ordinary” education), during a football cycle with two 4th grade classes in middle school. The observed teaching activity is determined by an artifact which is a debate of ideas (DI). This study takes support from the clinical approach of activities in ergonomics (Amigues, Faïta, Saujat, 2004) and the theory of the joint action in didactics (Sensevy and Mercier, 2007; Schubauer-Leoni and Leutenegger, 2008) in order to mobilize a new ergo-didactic approach (Brière, 2017). the use of this innovative method aims at bringing an original perspective to the PE teachers, between what want to do, what they should do and what they have actually done in terms of this dilemma arbitration between the activity and the role of the teacher, the meaning and the efficiency, and finally on the position of students. This research tries to give an answer to a fundamental problematic concerning the way compromises are achieved in terms of different constraints which weigh on the teacher and the conflicts they impose on them and their impact on the activity of the students linked to the challenges of knowledge. The data gathered following the simple and cross selfconfrontations as well as the synopsis show that the activity of the two teachers, beyond their belonging has been distributed in comparison to the appropriation and the instrumentalization of the artefact during their teaching
